Discs in a Box

Created for Sunrise Records

The Project

Discs in a Box was an animated, interactive Christmas advent calendar for Sunrise Records that revealed a new album on sale for every day of December. Each day, the record corresponding to the day would reveal a new album cover and spin in a clockwise rotation. When clicked, a popup would slide in with the album details, a list of similar artists, and a form to enter a contest and sign up for their newsletter. There was also a little easter egg in the scene. When the Santa character hiding behind the bush in the bottom left corner of the screen was clicked, a printable custom Christmas card PDF was revealed.

Every day the API updates and displays a new set of asteroids within a certain range to earth. You can select each asteroid to view its details and see whether or not it's actually a threat!

Scratch Card

Created for Sunrise Records

The Project

After the user confirmed an original email address through a Google Firebase controlled field, an interactive scratch card would display that would show a win/lose image along with an accompanying win/lose popup after a certain percentage of the card had been scratched. The resulting images and their odds were easily managed in the back end. All details such as user email and outcome are stored in the connected Google Firebase Database.

Spin Wheel

An accompanying popup would then be triggered with further details on the resulting prize for the user. All details such as user email and prize are stored in the connected Google Firebase Database.

Data Collection: Python Web Scraper

Created for Sunrise Records

The Project

I was responsible for leading the build of a new ecommerce website for Sunrise Records that would connect directly to the companies ERP software and pull prices and inventory automatically. Unfortunately, these database entries lacked proper item information and images for the procucts and I needed to source out details and images for the tens of thousands of items in the company inventory to display to our website visitors.

After learning that Amazon.ca carried the majority our UPCs, I used Python and the Scrapy web-crawling framework to create a program that would take in a CSV of UPCs, append each one to an Amazon.ca URL, crawl the resulting page, filter out any sponsored results and navigate to the first actual result, and then pull the specific information I required for that product and downloads the hi-res image. All of this information is then saved into a new CSV, which can be directly uploaded to our ERP for the website to pull from.

Sunrise Records Blog

Created for Sunrise Records

The Project

When Sunrise Records acquired HMV in the UK they wanted to take advantage of steady flow of content that HMV marketers were producing for their own blog. Using an HTML DOM parser, I translated the existing HMV blog content into content that I could feed into a new blog for Sunrise. The blog uses cURL methods to retrieve content, in lieu of modifying the server's "allow_url_fopen" directive for security purposes. The PHP5+ class Simple HTML DOM parser was then used to parse the content.

Club Sunrise Website

Created for Sunrise Records

The Project

This was a website built with WordPress for easy editing by the non-tech savvy. A section of the website implements the API provided by the loyalty program provider in order to show the user's current accumulated points and existing rewards. There is also a section on the website that maps out all 82 Sunrise Records retail locations on a stylized map.

Sunrise Records Ecommerce Website

Created for Sunrise Records

The Project

I worked with Manitoba-based Terracor Business Solutions to build out an ERP controlled ecommerce website for Sunrise Records. Terracor took care of the back end work, such as syncing the website to the ERP database and returning the proper item data, while I took care of all of the front end work such as design, layout, social media feeds, interactive maps, and presentational tweaks such as presenting items as "pre-order items" based on their ERP-provided release date.
